The pandemic has claimed Retro Dog, the hot dog focused family-owned restaurant with car-hop service on East Steels Corners Road in Cuyahoga Falls.
The restaurant, which featured char-grilled hot dogs, hamburgers, hand-cut fries, onion rings, house-made root beer, frozen custard and more, announced on Facebook that it closed on Sunday.The restaurant also created a mascot featuring a length-wise hot dog as its head.
"After 8 years of providing the greater Akron area with gourmet hot dogs and craft made root beer, Retro Dog will be closing its doors on October 18th. It's with great sadness this decision has come to be," the announcement said.
"We have always been faced with challenges due to location and seasonality, now with Covid-19 pandemic it is simply not feasible for us to continue to operate profitably," the statement said. "We would like to thank our local customers, business partners, and the greater Akron community who have demonstrated their support in so many ways throughout the years. Many wonderful relationships have been created and we will always be grateful. Most importantly we would like to thank the extraordinary staff. Their dedication and hard work during our tenure has been nothing short of astounding. The staff has always been our motivation during these challenging … times."
Retro Dog opened in June 2012. Owners were Lisa Bruno and Camille Berrodin.
