EDITOR:
We continue to watch the woke/cancel culture police ban or denounce anything that symbolizes America. More recently, they have taken it even further — joined by President Biden, Major League Baseball and American corporate leaders — cancelling mom, baseball and apple pie.
Let’s begin with mom: It was around Mother’s Day when Congresswoman Cori Bush was testifying before the Democrat Oversight Committee about the birth of her two children and the Black maternal health crisis, replacing the word “mothers” with “birthing people.”
This was soon followed by a Twitter backlash for using the gender-neutral term. Some did come to her rescue, claiming that surrogates and transgender men can also give birth and be considered mothers. Bush is the newest member of AOC’s squad.
Soon after, President Biden bowed to the squad and the woke by replacing “mother” with “birthing person” in his proposed budget.
Next, it’s America’s favorite pastime, baseball. The San Francisco Giants took some heat for wearing Pride patches on their uniform. But the new politics and racism of sports really made the headlines when Major League Baseball and large American corporations denounced Georgia’s Election Integrity Act of 2021, calling it racist.
This resulted in the MLB and numerous corporations boycotting the city of Atlanta, along with MLB Commissioner Rob Manfred relocating the All Star Game and MLB Draft from Georgia to Colorado. It soon became clear that Manfred had not read the Georgia statute, discovering too late that Colorado’s voting laws were almost the same as Georgia’s.
While this move caused great economic losses to Atlanta, the biggest losses were experienced by Black American business owners who own 30% of Atlanta’s small businesses.
The woke police are relentless and have now branded apple pie racist. Raj Patel, food writer for the Guardian Newspaper, claims that the famed American dessert was born of colonialism and slavery, stating that the pie has “bloody origins and is as American as stolen land, wealth and labor.”
Patel writes that apples arrived from central Asia and traveled to the western hemisphere with colonists in the 1500s, who used the apple trees as markers of civilization or property. He added, “John Chapman, aka Johnny Appleseed, took these markers of colonized property to the frontiers of the U.S. expansion, where his trees stood as symbols that indigenous communities had been extirpated.” Patel then linked the arrival of the sugar on the pie crust to that of French slavery in the 1700s.
It’s time to cancel the woke. On July 4, let’s fly Old Glory and take a drive to Apple Hill.
