AMHERST COUNTY, Va. (WFXR) — The beloved matriarch of Woodruff’s Cafe & Pie Shop died Tuesday evening at the age of 104.
Woodruff’s Cafe & Pie Shop announced her passing on their Facebook page Wednesday morning.
Mama Woodruff opened the family business in 1952 as a grocery store. About 20 years ago, she handed the store over to one of her four daughters, Angie Scott, who opened the pie shop in 1998.
Since then, the shop has been a staple in Amherst County and has received regional and national attention. It has been spotlighted by a variety of publications and a PBS documentary; its legendary apple pie has even been praised in Southern Living Magazine and on The Today Show.
A visitation service will be held on Sunday, May 16 from 5:00 p.m. – 6:30 p.m. at the Tree of Life Ministries at 2812 Greenview Drive.
The funeral service will also be held at the Tree of Life Ministries on Monday, May 17 at 2 p.m.
