PORT ARANSAS, Texas — A woman in Port Aransas wanted to bake something sweet for her community after seeing folks helping each other out during the big freeze.
During the Texas freeze, Kate Lowe said she was without power and running water for almost four days but luckily her pie fridge in the garage still had freezing temperatures.
Low said she saw volunteers at the Civic Center in Port Aransas providing meals so she decided to bake them something sweet. A total of 68 pies to be exact.
“I worked all day Saturday all day Sunday and I got all of the pies baked and I delivered for roughly like 8 hours on Monday,” said Low.
To receive one of the delicious pies, members of Snake Farm Pie Co group on Facebook nominated people in the community they thought deserved a treat.
“We ended up getting roughly, I wanna say 50, 55 nominations,” said Low.
Low said she started Snake Farm Pie Co last year because of COVID-19. With everyone losing their jobs she decided to make a sweet pick me up and made 100 free pies.
There are over 50 flavors of delicious sweets, regular pecan pie, buttermilk, white chocolate bourbon pecan, you name it.
“She gives people a chance to be recognized just for the little things you know. It doesn’t have to be something big that people get recognized for. She puts that opportunity out there, its really wonderful," said Marilee Henson who was nominated for a pie.
Low said she likes to refer to her good deed with a fun twist on words, “Pie-It-Forward.” Something she said others in her community take to heart.
“It’s so much to take in, I mean that is straight Port A love. This community is crazy awesome but I can’t explain it. You get goosebumps and you start baking,” said Low.
