Turn hot dogs into mummies | Taste - Elizabethtown News Enterprise

Halloween plans will be different this year for most families but you still can have a spooky good treat.

There are many choices to find in a search on the internet. Some are very complicated and not something easy for children to help. Others are simple lsuch as Mummy Hot Dogs.

I got this idea from a photo I saw of them.

Naturally, it all starts with a hot dog. Most if these mummy dogs in photos have been displayed on a plate but I decided they’d be more fun on a stick. I took a wooden skewer and cut the sharp end off so no one was poked when they ate. Then I stuck it through the hot dog lengthwise just like a corn dog.

Then, you wrap the mummy. This is one thing to be added to the long list of treats that can be made with canned crescent dough.

Roll the dough out and seal the seams. Then cut thin strips in the dough for mummy wrappings.

Then, wrap the hot dog to look like a mummy. I like to cover the top like the headdress and leave a gap in case you add candy eyeballs for presentation sake. I can’t imagine actually eating the candy eyeballs on a hot dog but to each their own. And if you do use candy eyeballs, make sure you put those on after you cook them.

After they are wrapped I cooked them in the oven to get golden brown.

They turned out super adorable.

Because mummy’s have messy wrappings, this is an easy one for children to make.

Be careful to let the mummy hot dogs cool before serving because the sticks will be hot out of the oven.

A few weeks ago, I made these for some friend’s children. They called them screaming hot dogs. That name fits as well.

We tried them dipped in ketchup and salsa. But, after discussing it a bit further, decided they’d also be great dipped in cheese dip. So we may have to try that next time.

There may not be big Halloween parties this year and trick-or-treating will look a bit different, but that doesn’t mean you still can’t have fun at home.

Making some fun treats, such as Mummy Hot Dogs, is one way to keep the fun going this year.
