Even while on vacation, the temptation to dine in familiar places persists. That’s why there’s KFC in China. They don’t just serve fried chicken; they serve comfort to the homesick expatriate or tourist. Thus, the amount of steakhouses in Vegas might bewilder you right through the doors of an Outback Steakhouse. But we implore you: Resist the familiar. Try something new!
1. Tom Colicchio’s Heritage Steak (The Mirage, 866.339.4566) Two words: Heritage Manhattan. This cocktail, which is garnished with a hickory-smoked cherry, will set the tone for the rest of your meal, whether you order the bone-in New York strip or the Tabasco-peppered American wagyu skirt steak.
2. Andiamo Steakhouse (The D, 702.388.2400) This downtown Italian steakhouse doesn’t get talked about enough. Here, the most eye-popping cut is the 32-ounce tomahawk steak, which looks about the size of an end table. Don’t forget to ask for the zip sauce.
3. Smith & Wollensky (The Grand Canal Shoppes, 702.637.1515) You might be shocked to find the 44-ounce swinging tomahawk ribeye on menu. The thing is enormous. But if you can find a way to fit any more food inside of you, enjoy the cut with crispy beef-fat potatoes.
4. StripSteak (Mandalay Bay, 702.632.7200) Steakhouses are typically too fancy, but chef Michael Mina’s menu is so playful and creative that this place never feels pretentious. Appetizers like “instant” bacon prove that argument. As for steak, you won’t regret ordering the Creekstone Farms New York strip.
5. The Steak House at Circus Circus (702.794.3767) Simply put, this place is a classic. There are no frills—just careful, dedicated attention to you and your experience, just like the old days. Go for the ribeye or prime rib and pair with a perfectly crafted Old-Fashioned.
6. Gordon Ramsay Steak (Paris, 702.946.4663) In case you’ve never seen one of Ramsay’s TV shows, beef Wellington is his signature dish. And make no mistake: It’s the star of the menu. But options like the 32-ounce royal long-bone chop or the 8-ounce American wagyu filet are equally satisfying.
7. Old Homestead Steakhouse (Caesars Palace, 702.731.7560) It’s a New York City import, and in typical NYC fashion, this place does not mess around. Get right to the point with the 16-ounce ribeye, add on an Alaskan king crab leg, and share a shellfish platter with the table.
8. Prime Steakhouse (Bellagio, 702.693.8865) With elegant décor and patio seating right on Lake Bellagio, Jean-Georges Vongerichten’s classic restaurant may be the best spot to enjoy a steak dinner. The dry-aged bone-in ribeye is delectable, but if you’re on a fancy date, opt for the 36-ounce porterhouse for two.
9. Bugsy & Meyers Steakhouse (Flamingo, 702.733.3111) It’s named after the mobsters who opened the Flamingo, which is appropriate, because this place is so good it should be illegal. Pair a 10-ounce filet with a single lobster tail and order some crisp broccolini on the side.
