Erie Times-News
Connie's Ice Cream, 3150 W. 32nd St., is open year round inside Presque Isle Pizza. For the holidays, they've already started making their caramel apple and pumpkin pie ice cream pies, according to owner David Stromenger. Pumpkin pie and caramel apple pie ice cream are also available in hard ice cream flavors for cones, dishes and sundaes. If you want a pie for your celebration, Stromenger said it's best to call and order in advance at 838-1008. They are open daily, 3 to 9 p.m.
John Russell Brewing Co. beers are now on tap at all U Pick 6 Pubs, Restaurants & Bottle Shops, according to the company's Facebook page. That's the John Russell Brewing Co. Brew House & Restaurant, 7520 Peach St., named for owners John Melody and Russell Stachewicz. Beers include Pursue Your Hoppiness, a Northwestern Pennsylvania IPA with 6.8% ABV; and Me & Julio, a Mexican Lager with 4.2% ABV. U Pick 6 Pubs include Public House in Millcreek Township, Harbor House in Harborcreek Township and Tap House in downtown Erie. The brewery itself is not open yet. Owners are still hiring. Apply online or in person. For more information, visit https://bit.ly/3ozKw6a.
Serendipity Sweets Erie, 863 E. 38th St., is a gluten-free restaurant doing its best to welcome the pizza crowd to its location in advance of the new Donato's Pizza going in next door, according to its Facebook page, where it pictures small gluten-free pizzas available at two for $7. They take about 10 minutes.
Pennsylvania Libations Wine, a new wine shop in Pittsburgh's Strip District, at 1700 Penn Ave., is selling what it purports to be the state's largest selection of locally made wines and ciders. They had a soft opening early this month. According to the new shop's Facebook list, the shop sells a variety of wines from Presque Isle Wine Cellars, 6 Mile Cellars and Mazza Wines, all local-to-us Lake Erie Wine Country establishments.
Folks who were sad to miss North East's annual wine fest can relive it, sort of, on the season-long Erie Libations Tour. Here's how it works, according to the event's website, https://www.erielibations.com/. With a tour ticket, tourists receive a special promotion at each establishment and different discounts depending on laws governing each place. Participants have until Dec. 21 to visit all or as many of the vendors as they like. If they visit all of them and return the ticket to IronStone Meadery or email the completed ticket to erielibations@gmail.com, they are entered into a drawing for a basket with two bottles from each business. Second- and third-place will get cash prizes. Check out the venues at the Facebook page. Tickets are $15 for a single and $25 for a couple.
Lucky Louie's, 8238 Perry Highway, is offering s’mores you can cook yourself over a fire on its patio. You pay $5 for enough supplies for two sandwiches with either a traditional Hershey’s bar or a pair of Reese’s Peanut Butter Cups. Then Louie's throws in some other candy for you to snack on or add to your s’mores. A staffer added bacon one day and said on Facebook it was "killer." An extra $1 gets you two strips of bacon. Lucky Louie's also has clear tents with heaters in them for sitting outside the whole time you're there. Which way do I steer?
P.S. I'm trying to round up places to order Thanksgiving meals to go for an upcoming column. (Yes, I know. It's coming already.) If you know of a place or own such a place, I'd be much obliged if you share details with me via email or phone.
