It is apple pie time again.
Divine Savior’s Apple Pie Sale began in 2000. It started as an eighth grade fundraiser. It began with the eighth grade students and their parents making 400 pies in the SS. Peter & Paul Church kitchen. The families brought apple peelers, paring knives, and hand corers from home. The crust was purchased frozen, but the filling and topping were homemade. Pies were pre-ordered, made fresh, double bagged, and boxed. This process holds true today. Orders are picked up or delivered. Customers have the choice of baking the pie(s) immediately or freezing them.
Pie production has been moved back to the weekend of Oct. 2-3 at Divine Savior School in the gymnasium at 413 Fremont St., Kiel. Volunteers are still needed to assist.
After 20 years of pie making, this continues to be one of the school’s biggest fundraisers. Every year the committee works hard on improving equipment and productivity while the families work hard on selling and making the pies. Because of the hard work and increased sales, they have upgraded to using industrial peelers, refrigerated trucks, and purchased new apple corers. They also enlisted parents, grandparents, aunts, uncles, alumni, high school students, friends, neighbors, and parishioners to help assemble the pies. Generations come together to work side by side and have a fun time for the cause.
In years past most money went into the general budget with some of the money funding alumni and tuition scholarships and teacher incentives. Now proceeds go to the school’s general budget.
Orders are being taken for Homemade Dutch Apple pies in this annual fundraiser to benefit Divine Savior Catholic School. Orders must be placed in advance.
To place an order, please contact a school family or call Divine Savior School, 920-894-3553.
