Panthers Hot Dog Eating Contest Hall of Fame - Cat Scratch Reader

arome.indah.link

Following the Panthers on Twitter is a lot of fun, especially when they post tweets like this one:

As part of a rookie initiation, select players were chosen to compete in the pinnacle of human achievement: quickly eating pureed meat. The rookies on the defensive line unsurprisingly took home the victory. Guys like Derrick Brown and Yetur Gross-Matos definitely seem like the types to throw down some food. Let’s just hope they throw down opposing linemen at the same rate.

This little event got me thinking about previous Panthers players who would have dominated this type of thing. Let’s take a look at who I think would be in the Panthers Hot Dog Eating Contest Hall of Fame.

Jeff Otah

One of the biggest participants, Otah was a very talented right tackle for the Panthers until injuries (and possible apathy towards the game) sidelined his career. At 340 pounds, Otah definitely would have relished (get it?) the opportunity to compete in this event.

Dontari Poe

Another behemoth of a man, Poe only spent a few seasons in Carolina. Now with the Cowboys, this athletic freak was also over 340 pounds of (one would assume) hot-dog eating machine. Poe definitely could have mustered up (get it?) the drive to show the other eaters how it’s done.

Brad Hoover

Hoooooooooov isn’t the biggest guy on this list, but he sure ate up opposing linebackers on those power plays back in the day. Since he hails from Western Carolina, he’s used to chilly (get it?) temperatures and has ice in his veins.

Kelvin Benjamin

One thing Kelvin Benjamin could not do during his time with the Panthers was separate from opposing defenders, but I do think he could separate himself from the pack in this type of contest. He clearly enjoyed consumption based on his physique, though I’m not one to judge. He had trouble giving full effort when it came to chasing down defenders who took the ball out of his hands, but I have a feeling he’d do well in this event. Even if he fell behind, he would have the wherewithal to catch up (get it?).

Steve Smith

If you don’t think Smitty would dominate any contest he entered, you better check your references. The Rules & Regulations would have curb stomped any opponent, so he would definitely belong in the Hall of Fame. If I’m being frank (get it?), Steve Smith would probably be the GOAT, even in this event. Joey better guard his Chestnuts because Smitty is coming for him.
