South Philly Italian Pasta & Subs of Canton was modeled after the most successful submarine takeout restaurant in Atlantic City, New Jersey.
Owner Howard Knepper discovered the Atlantic City sub shop in the early 1960s, after it had already became iconic and world-renowned in the 1940s for sending out the biggest and best Italian hoagies, meatball subs, Philly steak and cheese, ham and turkey submarines.
Believing in the basic concept of “don’t change what works,” Knepper decided to start his own submarine shop, serving the same overstuffed subs and Italian-style pasta to Canton.
Just like the Atlantic City shop, South Philly Italian Pasta & Subs in Canton sends out the biggest, overstuffed meatball subs with melted provolone cheese and marinara, Italian hoagies with half a pound of meat and the best olive oils and vinegar that truly makes it one of the best Italian hoagies anywhere, as well as steak and cheese subs with sautéed peppers and pizziola.
Between the submarines and the pasta with marinara and meatballs or Italian sausage, and delicious meat or cheese ravioli with white or red sauce, Knepper has created a five-star takeout dining experience.
“You simply cannot go wrong,” Knepper said.
An incredible meal can be ready for you in less than 15 minutes, with nothing priced over $11.50.
The experience is one-of-a-kind, and Western North Carolina is lucky to have South Philly Italian Pasta & Subs in Canton, serving only the best quality, overstuffed subs and dishes.
Demand for the food is so high, the establishment at 2768 Asheville Highway just outside Downtown Canton is open from 10 a.m. to 9 p.m. Monday through Saturday, and noon to 8 p.m. Sunday. South Philly Italian Pasta & Subs is open every day, rain, snow or shine except Christmas Day.
