Pasta recs and COVID tests: Baltimore Ravens prepare for start of training camp - PennLive

In any normal year, Baltimore Ravens first-round rookie linebacker Patrick Queen might have asked where to go for a sit-down Italian dinner near his new home. But he’ll probably have to settle for carryout in 2020.

Either way, Queen received a flood of recommendations from Baltimore-area football fans and foodies Monday after he took to Twitter and wrote: “Whoever in Baltimore make the best pasta bouta get my whole check.”

The tweet also offered a sign that training camp is near — even as the NFL and its players union continue to bargain over specifics regarding player safety and how to absorb the economic blow the coronavirus crisis is sure to deliver. Rookies, like Queen, are scheduled to report to the Ravens’ facility Tuesday. The full team is due in July 28. And reports suggest the league is moving toward a deal with players that irons out many details of a return to work during a pandemic.

While young players must get acclimated to their surroundings in Charm City (Queen didn’t get to explore the Baltimore food scene this spring with offseason workouts canceled), established Ravens stars are also bracing for new realities.

The NFL on Monday unveiled it would require daily coronavirus tests for players and other staffers who work in the building during the first two weeks of training camp. Ravens All-Pro cornerback Marlon Humphrey wrote on Twitter that he recently underwent a test for COVID-19, which entails a doctor sliding a cotton swab deep into both nostrils.

It appears Humphrey did not enjoy the experience.

The road ahead for the NFL and its players, owners and fans remains dotted with obstacles and uncertainties during an unprecedented time for the league and the world. On social media, though, several Ravens are making clear — in their own ways — that they’re preparing to get back to work and take the practice field.
