When done right, a dish of pasta can be an experience in and of itself. And while the sauce, meatballs and other accompanying ingredients are a big part of it, it’s the noodles that will make or break any pasta dish. If cooked for even a minute too long, the dish turns into a mushy, unappetizing ordeal that only becomes more unpleasant with each bite. Life is too short to eat anything other than firm, toothsome, perfectly al dente noods.

When I’m in the mood for a pasta experience (especially one that involves uni, the foie gras of the sea), the first restaurant that comes to mind is always Arancino Ristorante Italiano. While it has several locations—three on O‘ahu, two in Japan—my favorite one by far is Arancino di Mare, located at the Marriott Beach Marriott Resort, which has outdoor terrace seating that feels both open and intimate at the same time, and offers a front-row view for people watching in Waikīkī. And, of course, expertly craft pasta dishes with consistently al dente noodles.

Arancino di Mare outdoor terrace dining

popular with diners, Arancino’s outdoor terrace offers beautiful island weather and people watching with your meal.

Reopened on June 18 for dine-in and takeout, Arancino di Mare is currently Arancino’s only up-and-running location on the island. And it’s giving kama‘āina a very good reason to load up on the carbs: Right now, show your valid state I.D. to receive 20% off all food and beverages (including the alcoholic variety) during dinner, and 50% off its weekend lunch special menu. Free parking is available for all diners.

For families, Arancino is also offering a drive-through-only free keiki pizza every Friday at 3 p.m. No purchase is necessary, but since you’ll be there, might as well order a little something for yourself, right?

Keep in mind that Arancino’s hours of operation have changed. Dinner is now served Tuesday through Sunday, 4:30 to 8:30 p.m., with lunch on Saturday and Sunday from 11:30 a.m. to 2:30 p.m. Reservations are highly recommended and can be made by phone at 808-931-6273 or through Opentable. Face masks and proper social distancing are, of course, required.
